Be Me
Ever wanted to be a burnt-out, part time student, balancing a full time job, your degree, and some semblance of a social life? You've come to the right place.
Initially, the inspirations for this came out of Roadwarden and something like Guild of Dungeoneering. After some iterations and a paper prototype played with my friends, I realised the programming of the internal logic was going to take a lot more time than initially thought (mostly interactions between pawn and the tiles, recognising game states and altering the dice rolls/challenges accordingly)
In the end, the game has ended up a lot more inspired by something like Citizen Sleeper, which is an outstanding game, which I do recommend.
After some fleeting between ideas, the theme of "Museum of Me" felt weirdly difficult to approach. I found myself struggling to understand what is my museum, and who am I really. As a result, I turned to "writing what I know" which meant portraying my every day struggle to split between the three or four things. This, channelled into my favourite type of game (RPG, or boardgame, Why not Both?!), turned out to be the main solution out of the creative rut, and out into the great world of bug fixing, and technical troubleshooting, and hating myself for not choosing the right UI/Canvas settings at the start.
The main upgrades the game needs are more visual and audio flourishes, though I am somewhat proud of the glow effect, as well as the way that the tracks cycle/mute functionalities I added. I would like to add some sort of audio feedback to players failing or succeeding a roll, as well as when their mood changes from one stage to another.
In terms of larger scale, gameplay changes, a map that feels more responsive was pretty high on the list, but still very much on the "Would be nice to have" section. Either randomised tile positions (within parameters), or dynamically changing tile difficulties, not just statistics.
Either way, this was an incredibly fun project that challenged me in a few ways, and taught me so many things.
